Pictures from the storm

 

the alert was issued RIGHT AS the storm was beginning to hit us.  Some hail- probably penny sized- was falling and torrential rain was beginning.  When the weather radio said Quarter Sized hail and that it would be near Northfield, we ran outside with bike helmets on and put thick quilts on the car to prevent hail damage.  We were outside for no more than 30 seconds, but we were soaked and quite rattled- we could have been struck by lightning.  When we got back insode, the power was out, the weather radio was still going crazy, and 1"+ hail was beginning to fall.  I scramble to find the camera, and after the storm clears, take these pictures.  These pictures were also featured on WPTZ.com during their severe weather coverage.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON HAS ISSUED A 

 

* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR...

ORANGE COUNTY IN CENTRAL VERMONT 

WASHINGTON COUNTY IN CENTRAL VERMONT 

CALEDONIA COUNTY IN NORTHEAST VERMONT 

 

* UNTIL 845 PM EDT. 

 

* AT 752 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A 

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL...AND 

DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR 

GRANVILLE...AND MOVING NORTHEAST AT 40 MPH. 

 

* THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WILL BE NEAR...

NORTHFIELD FALLS AROUND 815 PM EDT. 

BERLIN...MONTPELIER...BARRE AND SOUTH BARRE AROUND 820 PM EDT. 

EAST MONTPELIER AROUND 825 PM EDT. 

PLAINFIELD AROUND 830 PM EDT. 

 

IN ADDITION TO LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS...CONTINUOUS CLOUD TO 

GROUND LIGHTNING IS OCCURRING WITH THIS STORM.
